StepUp Ministry

Program

The purpose of the StepUP program is to provide second chances for those committed to living independent, responsible, and productive lives. We are motivated to do so out of a faith perspective that challenges us to simultaneously uplift the God-given potential of each individual while recognizing that individuals cannot grow apart from community. StepUP is a community where participants, volunteers, and staff affirm strengths, address shortcomings, and learn skills that lead to self-sufficiency.

Home Ownership

Research has shown that in our society home ownership is one of the most important variables in determining a family's financial stability. For this reason, StepUP Ministry offers a home ownership program to StepUP participants who have graduated from the Life Skills Program. Once admitted into the home ownership program, participants have a 12-24 month period to demonstrate their ability to become responsible homeowners. The program goal is to assist participants in the purchase of a moderately priced single family home that, through the use of first time home-buyer programs, has a monthly mortgage payment that is affordable (in the $650 to $750 range). Home ownership offers participants a long-term incentive to remain independent and offers the opportunity for the financial stability and capital accumulation that will transform their lives.
